My Sweetest Sugarland
27th June 2010

Pink jacket – SteveJ & YoniP; Above & Left: Jasper Garvida AW10 (Propeller Shirt) Top: Beautiful digital print ‘Tiger Dress’ by Belle Sauvage Left: Silk dress by John Rocha Top: Dress by SteveJ & YoniP, Left: Leather Headpiece/Brooch by Havva Vintage Asian Clutch Binglaba Neck Cuff Vintage Silk shrug in brides section My preconception of My Sugarland, formed solely by clicking around their website, was crumbled to pigeonbites when I visited their boutique last Friday. I judge books by their covers, I admit, well maybe because my profession is to design the covers, so naturally I wasn’t too impressed with the usability of their site. I guess I went a bit S Cowell on My Sugarland and judged it too hastily, because that boutique was actually a helluva singer. I mean, treasure trove. I’ve never seen vintage and contemporary designers mixed so tastefully – from 60′s wedding dresses to digital prints by [...]

Christmas already?
6th May 2010

Photo from Oliwka’s blog, Variacje Handheld Felt bags by Joanna Figurniak, 160zl (~£33) each ‘Stretch Me’ half-moon bags by marzArt, 150zl (~£32) each Eco-leather satchel-bags by Raramodo, 125zl (~£26) each Braided Jersey by Cado Accessories 70zl (~£14) each Under ‘Rings’ Category – Prices all under £45 (crazy) All images from Pakamera.pl, except first. Just a quickie again because my tutor is calling me in at a very inhumane hour (10:30am, OK maybe not that inhumane) and I need to hit the fluffbox. Thanks to sweet Oliwka of Variacje my wallet is officially bulimic, I visited her blog today and that grey felt bag was the first thing I noticed from her smashin’ outfit, and unfortunately there was a shop link and a decent pricetag. Unfortunately, I find out Pakamera.pl also do international shipping, and they take Paypal. UNFORTUNATELY. The place is like the Polish equivalent of etsy, except treasures seem easier to [...]

Maybe Oneday
4th February 2010

All Images from Gmarket Halumaybe Rabbit/Fax-leather Gilet $57, 2-Button wool-mix coat $53, Coat-like wool-mix vest $52, Slouch pocket shirt $9 (but out of stock?), Hoodie coat $26, Peterpan collar dress $26, Slouch pocket vest $9 (also out of stock?) Dictionary.com tweeted yesterday that we still have 6 weeks of winter left; hot dang, I love your words and nouns and verbs and all that but you’re such a partypoop! According to my prognostication, this rapacious gelid winter was meant to skedaddle soon so we can finally sing our aubade of springtime but I now see interpreting all the mondegreen signs was a big fat jauk on my part! (There, I used all the Word of the Day from the last week, are you proud or what.) So my butterflies went back into their caterpillar trenchcoats, bistro chairs back indoors and twitters are still only to be heard through a digital blue [...]

Vintage is vintage is vintage
24th September 2009

Some of my favourite items from Oh Leoluca Vintage Etsy Store I remember how just over a year ago everyone treated vintage holier than new clothes and rushed off to local charity stores or antique markets to score a ‘unique’ piece. Our mothers’ wardrobes suffered sudden attention and lost significant weight as the meat got distributed to our own closets. “It’s vintage” used to be quite a defensive yet powerful answer to a where did you get your ____ from question because you really meant hah, you won’t ever find anything like this. But now it’s ubiquitous. Ironically, highstreet stores have even started to manufacture new clothes in the shape of the vintage clothes, and what do we see in the streets? Teenage mutant grandmothers. Nowadays it’s hard to find a one-of-a-kind piece without having to go through piles of clothes that were mass manufactured years ago as a part of trend [...]
